Hi everyone. Today sees the start of the July challenge at A Vintage Journey and we are looking for Tim Holtz inspired projects with the theme of destinations. I have had a difficult few weeks and I wasn't sure I would be able to get a project done for this one but I am so pleased that I have. What has been really important to me recently is the comfort and security my home gives me so I decided this was my destination of choice.
I haven't been on blogger much recently but I did catch a post from the fabulous Paula Cheney which inspired me to make this little plaque. You can find Paula's post here. There are quite a few differences, Paula was working on canvass and included a lot more colour than me and her letters were sticky back canvass too. But I loved her piece so much I adapted it for my MDF plaque.
I painted my plaque the lighter blue and then cut an oval out of a masking sheet. I placed this in the centre before added a darker blue around the outside of the plaque. Once dry, like Paula, I took gesso and dabbed it through a layering stencil and then removed some with kitchen roll.
I cut my letters from greyboard using a bigz die and added various paints with dabbing and a bit of splattering. Once dry I added glossy accents. A few remnant rubs finished the project.
