Art Journal 2015 No 1

Morning from a soggy and wet Basingstoke (UK). One of my aims this year is to develop art journalling. I have some time away from my craft room soon and the journal will be my only way to be creative so am hoping this will be a good time to play!

Brenda Brown at Bumblebees and Butterflies has started a Visual Journey for 2015 and is hoping others will link up with her.... this is how she describes it (better with words than me!)...

'Keeping a visual journal is a journey of experimentation; giving time to be free in expressing yourself and not constrained by others expectations. Practising design, layouts, composition, colour mixing, techniques, materials, mixed media. Creating your own exercises, titles, mood boards, taking yourself out of the box, finding yourself. Bring new ideas to life, to spark you off in new directions, to allow your own imagination and creativity to develop in complete freedom'.

You can link up with Brenda on her site or via the Link below.

Over the last few months I have also been following the Art Journal Journey blog so hope to use their themes as prompts too. They have revisited the 'Inspired by the Masters' theme for January so I decided to base my first page on this. I love abstract art and so developed my page using newspaper cuttings from January 1st 2015 in the style of Wassily Kandinsky.

Thanks for visiting

I have just read the blurb on Brendas blog and I was so excited to see that you are participating, I am hoping to as well but this sort of thing is way out of my comfort zone....Am I brave enough?????
Your page is definitely expressing an abstract form, it is good for your first entry.

  15. This is fabulous Nikki! I love Kandinsky (although must admit, until my youngest son pointed me in his direction about 15 years ago I knew nothing of his work) I love the way you have done this! Chrisx

  16. You have definitely hit the Kadinsky channel for sure! Love the balance and interplay, as well as the colors.....and like you, I am trying to get into this journaling practice as a way to explore. In my case because I know so little about mixed media - you are clearly an advanced practitioner but love that you are playing here!
