For the Boys at Try it on Tuesday

Over at Try it on Tuesday it is time for another challenge - 'For the Boys'.

I made this tag using, primarily, the Tim Holtz 'Roadtrip' set. I created my background out off the fabulous tyre track stamp. I cut out my petrol pump attendant and sentiment to give them more emphasis against the similar coloured background. I mounted it all on a black tag, added some rusted cogs and washers which I altered with Distress paints ( the washers from Wilkinsons!)

Texture Paste and Distress Paint background

I have been making a few backgrounds using paste through a stencil and distress paints to create that random background. Thought I would add some embellishments and make this card. My flowers, butterflies and birds are made textured using frosted film and crackle paint.

I would like to submit these to:

Time to Remember

It is June and that means Father's Day and also it would have been my Dad's birthday. There are alot of challenges focussing around this theme this month. I decided to make a little book in memory of my Dad and also a very good male friend who passed away last year.

I must give credit for the idea and design of the book to the wonderfully talented Candy Colwell - I saw this a while ago and wanted to make a little book like it! Here is the link to Candy's great tutorial on how to put the book together. I didn't use money envelopes but just pieces of kraft card to make my pages.

The inside cover and first double page are for my Dad and the second double page and back cover for Ron. They had very different personalities so the themes are quite different!

I used lots of Tim Holtz papers, stamps, inks, label letters, remnant rubs and alpha tiles. There are also a couple of Artistic Stamper stamps (the lovely girls) and the clock is from heartfelt creations.

For Dad:
Dad was an engineer and very precise and ordered so his collage page represents this.

For Ron:
Ron was more flamboyant, loved to travel and liked the ladies! I tried to represent this in his collage page.

So there is my little book...

I would like to enter this into:
and finally:
Fashionable Stamping Challenge - Like Clockwork (with my focus on time to remember I feel this is suitable)

It's Tag Friday at A Vintage Journey

It is Tag Friday at A Vintage Journey today - lots of tags on display for viewing or inspiration!
Mine is from the same series I created for the Texture challenge in May. Sometimes I find it is easier to make a few things (if they are small) at once - meaning I can move embellishments around to see what works. This is what I did here - I actually made five at once, moving elements between one and the other.

I find composition one of the most critical things in whether something works or not - and it is often just trial and error - and often I get it wrong!

The background was stamped in versamark and white embossing powder added - the tickets down the left hand side. I added grunge paste through Tim's stripe stencil before getting to play with my Distress inks!
Not a great photo this one - sorry. I die cut some cogs (Spellbinders) - the top one is embossed with Frantage aged taupe embossing enamel and then inked to create more colour contrast.

A game spinner, number salvage sticker, a sentiment and one of Tim's car stamps complete this little tag.

Birdy Cards

A couple of birthday cards for friends... both the same layout, but different colour schemes! Still cant decide which I prefer.

The backgrounds were made slightly differently - alcohols inks for orange and distress inks for blue.     The images are a mixture of Tim Holtz (bird and swirly thing!), Clarity (burlap and script) and Stampin Up for the butterfly. The birds are coloured in with Wink of Stella so are a little sparkly!

I would like to enter the following:
Our Creative Corner - Flaming June (the orange one!)
Craft Room challenge - Things with Wings

Hardwood and Butterfly

A little card made at a lovely crop yesterday in Fleet. Restricted myself to Stampin Up stamps, punches and ink! Simple but sweet.
