Texture Tag for AVJ

Hi everyone.  Today it is one our Tag Friday features at A Vintage Journey.

I have used an MDF tag, allowing me to add lots of texture and paint to the surface. Texture paste was added to the surface through a stencil and texture sand paste around the edges before I painted and highlighted with distress crayons.

A simple design was added with a small rusted Faceted Heart and some of Tim Holtz new Wildflowers.

Both the heart and flower had a little clear crackle added too.

Wildflower Silhouettes and Distress Oxides

Happy Friday!

It is time for an inspiration post at the Take It Make Challenge blog for this months challenge - a few more of us providing a few ideas for the Anything Goes (with stamping) challenge. As usual there are fabulous prizes up for grabs including a Christmas bundle from Kaisercraft incorporating stamps and stencils plus the chance to be selected to feature in Craft Stamper Magazine!

I was inspired by a birthday card I received from a friend to use my acrylic blocks and blending tools to make some colourful cards. I used both Distress Oxides and Distress Inks and stamped Tim Holtz Wildflowers in black archival.

Fly Away

Today we have a new challenge at That's Crafty and we invite you to Fly Away - a project with birds, butterflies etc. 

I have made this relatively simple 4x4 inch card with a Distress Oxide background with a little sponged paint here and there!

Distress Oxide and Wildflower Cards

Hello again, back for my second post of the day. I am the guest today over on the Craft Stamper Inspiration post for the May challenge. 

I finally got hold of a few more colours of distress oxides and had a play making lots of backgrounds. I decided to use them to make some birthday cards featuring Tim Holtz Wildflower stamps and dies. My Wildflowers and Sentiment thinlits are cut from kraftcore cardstock. 

These were inspired by the wonderful creations by Richele Christensen on the Ranger Blog.

A trio of butterflies

Today we see the start of a new challenge at A Vintage Journey - hosted this month by Annie. The theme is The Magic of Three.

I decided to work on a large MDF tag. This project developed as it went along really although I had seen an image recently on Pinterest - by Zoe Hillman that was influential in the design! 

I started by painting the tag with gesso and then smooshing it around in a mixture of brown distress paints. Once dry I added crackle texture paste through Tim Holtz latticework stencil. Again once dry I added more paint - browns again and cracked pistachio - sometimes off my craft mat and sometimes with my finger.

I die cut three greyboard circles, some wildflowers and mini detailed butteflies and sponged with the same brown and pistachio colours.

Finally I added one of Tim Holtz's new Metallic Quotation stickers.

Sentiment Words, Wildflowers and Mini Tattered Florals

Hello for the second time today! If you missed my earlier post - Tag Friday - for A Vintage Journey, you can find it here.

Today we have a new challenge at That's Crafty - where the theme is Foliage and Flowers. I decided to make a birthday card featuring the new Sentiment Words, Mini Tattered florals and Wildflower dies - all by Tim Holtz.

My background is embossed and sanded kraftcore card.

Wildflowers and tattered florals are coloured with distress inks.

Crackle and Distress Crayons for Tag Friday

We are having a Tag Friday at A Vintage Journey - yay! This happens when there are 5 Friday's in the month and we each share an anything goes tag

. 

This is a No 8 MDF tag from That's Crafty - a great surface to work on. I started with a coat of grey paint - chalk paint (white and black mixed together). I then stencilled the squares in white  - bold in places, more subtle in others - using a sponge. Once this was dry I added washes of Mahogany and Terracotta Paper Artsy paint. There is a little background stamping before the bolder wildflowers were stamped in black archival.

For my little house I gessoed and then dry embossed the card with a bricks embossing folder before swiping archival ink over the surface to catch the texture. I saw a project by Anna - Karin (Layers of Ink) recently that I loved where she used the Distress Collage medium - Crazing and distress crayons on Tim's Tiny Houses - you can see her post here.

I took inspiration from this and covered by house in the crazing medium and let it dry. I then added various distress crayon colours and worked into the cracks. I added brown paint around the edge.

I embellished the project with a flower made from Tim H - mini tattered florals, some of the wonderful new design tape and some die cut wildflowers.

Wildflower Tag Friday

 

It has been a busy old month here at Addicted to Art - lots of projects and posts (for me anyway!). As the month draws to a close it is Tag Friday at A Vintage Journey.

My tag began with a bit of PaperArtsy Chalk paint that was left on my craft mat - which I painted in patches on the tag and let dry. I then added some distress stains and a little water.

Love the effect this gives! 

Next I did some random stenciling and stamping to add extra depth and interest to the background. I also had some Wildflower die cuts on the desk so added some distress paints and as I wanted them to be quite solid added some gel paste.

I later added a little more colour when they were dry. To make them pop a little more on the similar toned tag I tore some book pages - added a little white paint and some distress ink. Some dyed white string and a hashtag saying completed my tag.

Stencils and Wildflowers

After all that excitement here are some more details of my project!

I decided to make a few cards with different backgrounds all using a slightly different technique but all using distress inks and Tim Holtz layering stencils.

From left to right:

1. I added various inks to my card using cut and dry foam. I then placed the stencil (my favourite - latticework) on top and spritzed with water - gave it a few seconds to react and then laid kitchen roll over to remove the ink.

2. I used the splotches stencil. I secured it over the card and used cut and dry foam to add a blue toned ink randomly but not over all of it. I then took a green ink and added to the remaining white areas.

3. Latticework again secured to my card. With a stencil brush I created a rainbow effect by brushing my inks in lines down the card.

4. Not as successful I think! The honeycomb stencil with 2 tones of pinky / purple - again with a stencil brush - the aim being to create a slight shadow.

I cut wildflowers from the die set out of dark blue cardstock and matted my backgrounds onto the matching card.

Wildflower birthday card
