Rusty Love Heart

Hi everyone. I have the week off work so a little craft room playtime for me - along with the normal list of chores to catch up with.
So I thought I would have a play with some Andy Skinner techniques I learned at a workshop I did last year (or was it the year before!) - seems a long time ago now but am heading off to the Mixology workshop in April so hoping to learn some new stuff!

Here is a quick summary:
I recycled a canvass I had on my desk as my base and cut my hearts from some packaging that arrived (with one of my crafty orders!)
1. Layered embossed card onto a canvass and added texture sand paste around the edges. When dry  I painted black and again once dry dry brushed white gesso over to catch the embossed areas. 
 
 I forgot the photo at that point but once the gesso is dry I added translucent paints as shown. 
2. The big heart was die cut and deco art crackle paint added and then again painted with translucent colours.
3. For the smaller heart I added some little pearls to by die cut and texture sand paste to the edges. Again I painted black before adding gesso and colouring.
 
 
Here a are a few close ups - I wonder if I might have gone a little crazy with the texture!
 My central panel was cut from foam board to which I adhered some book pages ... making sure they were a little torn around the edges. I stamped LOVE all over it and painted with translucent paint.

    I agree with Anne Nikki that you can't have too much texture. You have made great use of the techniques you have learned and used to create that background as it looks fabulous. Love the idea of using the pearls on the heart to give it a riveted look too. Love, love, love it. Mo x

    Oh, Nikki, this is just love on top of love! That torn paper background is amazing in itself, but your hearts piled up are gorgeously grungy..and I think a lot of texture is a good thing! Great tutorial too! thanks for sharing your process! Pinned this lovely piece of art!

    Grungy yumminess meets great texture and a Steampunkish design! Awesome sauce, and I don't think you can have too much texture as this is fantabulous! Great idea on the stackable hearts and the edging you have used around it. Wowzers design!
