Sentiment Words, Wildflowers and Mini Tattered Florals

Today we have a new challenge at That's Crafty - where the theme is Foliage and Flowers. I decided to make a birthday card featuring the new Sentiment Words, Mini Tattered florals and Wildflower dies - all by Tim Holtz.

My background is embossed and sanded kraftcore card.

Wildflowers and tattered florals are coloured with distress inks.

Crackle and Distress Crayons for Tag Friday

We are having a Tag Friday at A Vintage Journey - yay! This happens when there are 5 Friday's in the month and we each share an anything goes tag

. 

This is a No 8 MDF tag from That's Crafty - a great surface to work on. I started with a coat of grey paint - chalk paint (white and black mixed together). I then stencilled the squares in white  - bold in places, more subtle in others - using a sponge. Once this was dry I added washes of Mahogany and Terracotta Paper Artsy paint. There is a little background stamping before the bolder wildflowers were stamped in black archival.

For my little house I gessoed and then dry embossed the card with a bricks embossing folder before swiping archival ink over the surface to catch the texture. I saw a project by Anna - Karin (Layers of Ink) recently that I loved where she used the Distress Collage medium - Crazing and distress crayons on Tim's Tiny Houses - you can see her post here.

I took inspiration from this and covered by house in the crazing medium and let it dry. I then added various distress crayon colours and worked into the cracks. I added brown paint around the edge.

I embellished the project with a flower made from Tim H - mini tattered florals, some of the wonderful new design tape and some die cut wildflowers.

Embossed Hearts - Part 2

Last week I shared a heat embossed heart using Frantage Encrusted Jewels. You can find details here. Today's heart uses Frantage embossing enamel - a little less sparkly today! All the details and a step by step can be found over at That's Crafty.

Embossed Love Heart

Today we have a new challenge at That's Crafty - the theme being 'Bling it Up'. You are invited to take part by using glitter, gems etc in your project. As always there is a chance to win a £20 voucher to spend at That's Crafty.

I decided to have a play with a Stampendous Encrusted Jewel kit - full of sparkly bits and glitter! I added lots of layers of clear powder too to create depth on the heart. (The heart is a That's Crafty MDF one). When I had heated my final layer I stamped into the molten surface with LOVE which was 'inked' with metallic silver paint.

The 6x3 MDF panel it sits on was painted with PaperArtsy Midnight Fresco paint and then DecoArt metallic silver sponged over the surface.

The little heart was painted blue, glossy accents added and then some glitter and allowed to dry.

While the embossing powder was out I did another version which I will share next week.

Celebrating with Tim Holtz Mini Detailed Butterflies

Today we celebrate our third birthday at our Mixed Media challenge blog - A Vintage Journey! Our challenge for this month is All Aboard - an anything goes theme as long as your creation fits one of these genres - vintage; shabby; mixed-media; art journaling; industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

For my design this month I have created a 5x7inch canvas featuring the new Mini Detailed Thinlits from Tim Holtz, That's Crafty ATC's,  PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Paints and Stamps by Lin Brown.

I started with the canvas - building up colour and layers. I then took 3 That's Crafty MDF ATC's - well they are actually framed ATC's and I have just used the central portion. I added Deco Art Crackle paint and allowed to dry. I then added watery paint over the surface and once dry added a little antiquing cream.  I stamped over these ATC's with Lin Brown's grasses stamp from her recent Eclectica / PaperArtsy release.

While painting the canvas I used the same colours on some card which I used to cut the base of the butterflies. The top layer was cut from black card and a little paint sponged over.

My words are also from Lin Brown's stamp sets. The little greyboard panels were cut from Tim Holtz Mosaic die.
