Mixed Media Heart

Happy Sunday. I thought I would play along at a few challenges today. At Clarity it is Bingo time - I have used Clarity stamps (words and background text - but not sure this is visible anymore!), Clarity stencil (leaves) and grunge paste. Lots of distress paints and stains plus some die cuts for added texture and a little treasure gold.

12 Tags of 2015 - August - Addicted to Art
It has been a few months since I have played along with Tim's tags. Wasn't convinced by this one until I tried it - then I loved it!! You can see Tim's here. I was at my craft weekend when I did it so didnt have too many supplies , so went with grungepaper, distress painted umbrella man for my main feature.

Ooops bit out of focus there - sorry. Thanks for visiting.

Tattered florals and grungepaper...

For my second creation for the Country View Crafts August challenge - Summertime - I have created this textured canvas.
I started with a layer of gesso and once dry used distress paints to give it a little colour. I added some tissue paper to create some wrinkles and some texture paste around the edges to provide a border.

My flowers were made with grungepaper - with a layer of gessoed card stuck on it (makes it strong but still pliable). I make sure the gesso is stippled rather than smooth so that a little texture is there for highlighting with treasure gold or dry brushing. I cut out and painted my tattered florals flowers before highlighting. I added some air dry clay flowers too and finally dry brushed the whole canvass with a darker blue and added some treasure gold to highlight the textures.

Here and Now

Addicted to Art - Tim Holtz Butterfly Duo, Tim Holtz Mixed Media

Hi everyone... a quick post from me today. I spent the weekend with friends crafting so I got some proper craft playtime - hurray. Here is one of my makes from the weekend, a card combining the latticework die from Tim Holtz Mixed Media framelits with the latticework stencil. For the latter I used texture paste followed by distress sprays, scraped gesso and then some distress paint.
My background was a combination of distress sprays, then ink, then some spritzing and a little picket fence distress paint.

I would like to enter the following challenges:

Butterfly birthday

Time for a new challenge at A Vintage Journey and we have a favourite theme - it is Things with Wings.
I was inspired my my AVJ design team colleagues who recently did their Destination Inspiration posts using Tim's Shabby Chic technique from one of his books. However I think I need to master this one as it didn't go too well!

I embossed some purple cardstock with the background stamp from the Papillon set. I then took various distress paints (really must expand my range of colours) but just ended up changing the colour of the card - LOL! I still liked it though so I carried on.

I die cut some circles and coloured one in antique linen distress ink and the other with a dusty concord and chipped sapphire. The final circle was cut from dark brown card to match the matt on the card. I stamped the same background image onto the smaller circle using potting soil archival ink.

Whoops I forgot photographs for my butterfly - using the wonderful Butterfly Duo die and embossing folder. I cut him out and coloured the card with dusty concord and chipped sapphire inks before embossing. I then took some oil pastels in black and brown (thanks to Brenda Brown for this idea!) and highlighted the raised areas and around the edges.

I stamped my greeting from Simple Sayings, took some burlap and put my card together.

There is sure to be lots of creativity over at A Vintage Journey today - so do head over.

Summer time canvas

Being the 1st August it is time for the launch of a new challenge at Country View Crafts.  Our theme, appropriately for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, is Summertime.

I didn't have much of a plan for this piece - well I did, but that didn't work so I just carried on playing. I started with a layer of pink paint - it looks orange as I added yellow later. I added random stamping and stencilling with both texture paste and paint until I was happy with my background.
I hand drew the little vase and painted it - adding some air dry clay flowers and words. A little treasure gold to highlight finished the piece.

Heaps of inspiration over at the CVC blog today - I will be heading over!
